Greyhounds and Dog Parks

Greyhounds and Dog Parks

Up until this winter we never had an occasion or place to go where our dogs could be off-lead and roaming freely inside a large enclosed dog park with 30-40 other dogs. Tye, who loved every creature large and small, was never one to growl unless absolutely provoked. Gaspar, on the other hand, was a big question mark. Thankfully, we have gone to our local dog park many times now and every experience has been good with one exception.

The upside to dog parks is that the dogs all seem to get along extremely well, whether larger or small, and get lots of sniffing in, checking each other out. The downside is that sometimes the dogs seem to have little interest in actually running. At times, we would get little spurts but if we were solely taking the dogs there to run, that didn't happen. However, just the act of socialization was absolutely fantastic. We can now take Gaspar into downtown Delray Beach, Florida, mixing with lots of folks and mostly little dogs, and he does absolutely wonderfully. He enjoys it. And if he enjoys it, we enjoy it. Of course, we are careful not to go out on those days when it is too warm.

If you have not done so before, seriously consider taking your dog to a dog park and let them socialize and have fun. It will be good for them and good for you!
